Greek Orthodox (Romeoi/Rum) continue to be murdered in Syria! NIKI denounces the killing of two Romeoi in the Valley of the Christians and demands justice and protection for the Romeoi.
NIKI forcefully condemns the cowardly attack in Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of the Christians), Syria, where on October 1, 2025, two of our young Orthodox Romeoi brothers were murdered and another was gravely wounded.(*)
The assassins were four armed men, masked and riding motorcycles, who were dressed in uniforms of the General Security Service of the Central Government. These four masked attackers opened fire in cold blood against the young Romeoi, who, together with others, were present in the village of Anaz.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and our unwavering solidarity to the local Romeike community.
We demand a full and impartial investigation and the delivery of justice. This incident is not isolated. We consider it part of the broader campaign of targeting and terrorizing the Romeoi, with the aim of neutralizing and uprooting them from their ancestral homelands.
We call upon the Greek Government to immediately activate the diplomatic means at its disposal for the protection of the Orthodox Romeoi of the region, to raise the matter in international fora, and at long last to contribute with practical measures to the safety and aid of our brethren.
Action, Mr. Mitsotakis—not words. Not empty phrases such as those you used in your meeting with the so-called “transitional president of Syria,” Ahmed al-Sara, where you solemnly stressed “the need to protect Christian populations, as well as the need to respect International Law.” Yet in practice—nothing! Do not worry, Mr. Prime Minister! Once you have allowed all the Greek Orthodox of Syria to be exterminated (whom you even refuse to help come to Greece when they plead for it!), there will be no further reason for you to pretend that you care.
