A message of thanks to NIKI was posted on X by Greek Orthodox (Rum/Romeoi) faithful of Syria, in response to NIKI’s denunciation of the murderous attack against our Romeoi brothers that took place on 1 October 2025 in Wadi al-Nasara (the Valley of the Christians).
The note of gratitude appeared on the platform The Greco-Syrian Nation on 8 October 2025 and, in its laconic phrasing, encapsulates the need of our Romeoi brothers and sisters of the East—who suffer under the sword of jihadism—to find support and solidarity from the free portion of the Romeosyne, their great and worthy elder sister, as Greece is bound to be.
The message reads: “On behalf of all Rum-Syrians, we would like to thank @nikhgreece for its statement concerning the recent attacks against our community in Wadi al-Nasara.”
NIKI issued a press release regarding the recent attack, in both Greek and English: “Συνεχίζονται οἱ δολοφονίες Ἑλληνορθοδόξων (Ρωμηῶν) στὴ Συρία!” and “Greek Orthodox (Romeoi/Rum) continue to be murdered in Syria! NIKI denounces the killing of two Romeoi in the Valley of the Christians and demands justice and protection for the Romeoi.”
The Romeoi of the East are flesh of our flesh—heirs to the same History, the same Civilization, and the same Faith as our own. The ignorance of their very existence by the majority of the Greek people, and the contempt shown them by successive political leaderships of our homeland, can only have negative consequences for the present and the future of Greece and of Hellenism.
We remind that on 6 April 2025 Timotheos, Greek Orthodox Bishop of Goma and Greater Kivu (Congo) under the Patriarchate of Alexandria, sent a letter of thanks to NIKI’s Member of the European Parliament, Nikos Anadiotis, who brought before the European Parliament the dramatic situation into which both the Orthodox Church and, more broadly, the local population of the region of the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have fallen after attacks by paramilitary groups.
NIKI does not forget Greece’s historic responsibility toward our kindred brothers and sisters throughout the ecumene, nor does it ignore the benefits that can arise for our homeland from the rallying of the entire family of the Romeosyne and the cooperation of its members for a finer future in every field. For “if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice together” (1 Corinthians 12:26). This is the golden rule for a better tomorrow.
